Drumming Into My Heart - Short Film

Short Film (FYP) Logline: When a gentle, disciplined pianist goes toe to toe with a roguish laid-back drummer, little did he know that something beautiful will bloom from their joust.

I am the Director and the Editor for this production. I am working with Li Wei (Camera Operator), Aqil (Script Writer), Audra (Assistant Producer), Mei Xian (Producer) and Joshua (Sound Designer).

As for myself, honestly, I’ve done very well in managing the whole process of producing the film as well as leading the group members. The experience of being a Director or can be considered as the team leader was a big challenge for myself since some of my group members were not carrying their specific duty efficiently. However, there are still some areas that I need to improve on such as being too tolerable towards some excuses made and my skills of being a leader. On the other hand, I believe that I could have done better on my editing skills such as color grading and corrections, masking, utilizing the software tools as well as audio designing.

In the end, the filming process taught me a great deal. I've learned that there are several factors to consider, and I've realized that having decent equipment that operates well, such as the camera and lenses, is essential. Some of the shots were out of focus, and they would have been clearer with a different lens. There are also lighting issues that could have been resolved by adjusting the camera settings. Aside from that, one thing that I consider vital is casting; I recognize that selecting the proper actor is key. In any case, I'd like to continue working in the film industry. The Digital Media and Creative Production class really got me started in the filmmaking field, and I now have a greater grasp of the challenges of creating a film.
